Profile

Dr Kousounis is a Clinical Research Fellow at the Centre of Clinical Oral Research at the Institute of Dentistry (Queen Mary University of London, UK). Dr Kousounis received his Diploma of Dental Surgery in 2009 from the University of Athens, Greece. He worked in General Practice in Greece and in the Periodontal Department of Athens Military Hospital before he moved to the UK in 2010 to work as an associate in Dental Practice in the Norfolk region.

In 2012 enrolled in a three-year full time specialty-training program in Periodontology at the renowned Eastman Dental Institute (University College London). In 2015, Dr Kousounis obtained his MClinDent in Periodontology (UCL Eastman) and in the same year he was awarded a Certificate in Periodontology accredited by the European Federation of Periodontology (2015).  Dr Kousounis focused his research on microbiology and the use of molecular biology for the development of novel therapeutic strategies for peri-implant diseases.

Since 2015, Dr Kousounis is also working in private practice limited to periodontology and implant surgery. He has an active research portfolio and is currently involved at the Centre for Oral Clinical Research in various oral health clinical trials for the treatment of periodontal and peri-implant diseases.
