Centre for Dental Care Professionals celebrates 25 years
The Centre for Dental Care Professionals is committed to developing a confident and competent graduate, prepared for the nation's present and future health-care needs, by the provision of high quality, contemporary dental education in a dynamic and stimulating environment.
Centre staff have developed national profiles and a number are considered leader's in the provision of dental hygiene and therapy education; staff work with a number of national organisations and professional bodies to promote dental hygienists and therapists both at undergraduate and post-registration level. (General Dental Council, Faculty of General Dental Practice Royal College of Surgeons UK). Baldeesh Chana is currently President of the British Association of Dental Therapists.
In 2008, the Centre celebrated 25 years of training dental hygienists and dental therapists which was marked by a conference, a reunion and a dinner. This was an historic occasion as Barts and The London were the pioneers of the combined dental hygiene and therapy programme, which since its inception, has been copied across the UK.
The Centre works closely with the Institute of Dentistry to deliver the Diploma in Dental Hygiene and Therapy, in addition to the BDS Dentistry programme. All academic staff participate in the provision of academic teaching to underpin the clinical management of a broad and diverse range of patients.
