Dr Stephen Barter

Mr Stephen Barter qualified in dentistry from Guy’s Hospital in 1985 and in 2000 was one of the first to be awarded the MSurgDent and be admitted to the GDC Specialist List in Oral Surgery. He has 30 years experience in oral surgery with 22 years involvement in clinical and academic implant dentistry. He previously assisted in the running of the MClinDent in Periodontology at the Eastman Dental Institute  London, for over ten years. He is a Fellow of the ITI, a past Chairman of the UK and Ireland Section and has served on ITI international committees and consensus conferences. He has published in refereed scientific journals and the dental press; he has written book chapters, is the co-author of Treatment Guide 9 – Implant Therapy in the Geriatric Patient (Quintessence) and is now an editor of the ITI Treatment Guide series.

He currently lectures internationally and practices as part of a multidisciplinary dental team in a private specialist clinic.


Dr Aliye Akcalı

Dr Aliye Akcalı

Dr Aliye Akcalı, DDS, Specialist in Periodontology, PhD
Honorary Lecturer

Dr Aliye Akcalı is qualified as a dentist from the Ege University, in Izmir, in 2006. Being a specialist in Periodontology, she currently holds a PhD in the same field from the same university. Her PhD subject focused on soft tissue augmentation of ridge defects. During her work experience at the same university, she collected further experience as a visiting researcher at the University of Strasbourg, Department of Periodontology. Subsequently, she worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the Oral Microbiology and Immunology Department, University of Zurich and as a recipient of CED-IADR Visiting Scholar Stipend. Recently, she has worked as an International Team for Implantology (ITI) scholar at the Eastman Dental Institute, Unit of Periodontology, in London.

She has clinical experience in periodontology with a particular emphasis on peri-implant plastic surgery and bone regeneration procedures. Besides, she has solid experience in the field of biomedical research and host defense mechanism. She has been actively publishing her scientific work and presenting her research findings in scientific dental meetings where she also received numerous prizes, one of which was the ‘Senior Robert Frank Award-Clinical Research’ at the CED-IADR/NOF meeting, in 2015. She currently continues private practice limited to Periodontology and Implant Dentistry.
